Home › Buying and ownership › Can I Insure a Car Temporarily if It Has Been Given to Me but the V5C Has Not Arrived?
Answer: Sometimes. The insurer decides what evidence it needs, but you must describe the ownership position truthfully.
If the car has already been given to you, do not describe yourself as merely borrowing it just because the new V5C has not arrived.
Vehicle tax does not transfer with a change of keeper, so arrange tax before road use.
The insurer must still accept the driver, vehicle and ownership circumstances.
